Why doesn't Google index images of Joomla sites

Joomla blocks the images folder by default. Take a look in the default Robots.txt:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /administrator/
Disallow: /cache/
Disallow: /components/
Disallow: /images/
Disallow: /includes/
Disallow: /installation/
Disallow: /language/
Disallow: /libraries/
Disallow: /media/
Disallow: /modules/
Disallow: /plugins/
Disallow: /templates/
Disallow: /tmp/
Disallow: /xmlrpc/
 

 

This file tells the search engines to ignore the folder images.

To make sure that Google also indexes your images remove the following line:


Disallow: /images/
